INTRODUCTION

The Department of Chemistry has been established in June 1992 with the establishment of science wing of the college. Before June 1992, the students who were interested in science stream, either they were going to S.P.K. College, Sawantwadi or they were changing their stream due to lack of economical as well as travelling facility. By considering these problems and to develop scientific attitude in the students of Vengurla city and interior part of Vengurla, the Chemistry department has been established. Chemistry has been taught as special subject at T. Y. BSc right from the beginning of the science wing. Prof. S. S. Chamankar is working as a Head of the Department right from the beginning of the science wing till date.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

  • To enable the students to know the fundamentals of Chemistry, Drug & Dyes.
  • To prepare the students for various challenging carriers.
  • Expose the students to practical aspects of Chemistry, Drug & Dyes in daily life.
  • To encourage the student to apply the knowledge of chemistry for the society.
  • To develop creativity energy, mission, Satisfaction, Responsibility amongst the student for young India.
  • Student get knowledge of thermodynamics, electrochemistry in physical
  • Students should learn Various methods of spectroscopy, Organic reactions in organic chemistry.
  • Student get aware by Molecular spectroscopy, Co-ordination compound in Inorganic spectroscopy.
  • Student get knowledge of Chromatography, HPLC, AAS spectroscopy in Analytical spectroscopy
  • Student increase their real knowledge by learning various techniques of Industrial Chemistry.

Academic Planning

The department plans academic matters at the beginning of the academic year.   The head of the department calls meeting of the department and different subjects relating to academic  planning are discussed.  Following aspects are discussed in these meetings :

  1. a) Teaching : Preparing teaching plan, discussion about the syllabus etc.

  2. B) Tests : Conducting tests for the students content of test, first term examination etc.

  3. C) Syllabus completion : At the end of the first term as well as end of year, syllabus completion report is submitted to the principle.

 COURSE TAUGHT:

The papers and syllabus taught for the B. Sc.-I, B.Sc.-II, B.Sc.- III courses are as follows.

Departmental Library

Library is the Heart of the department. We are having adequate Text-books and number of reference books in our college central library. Our college central library is updated as per implementation of syllabus by the Board of Studies in Chemistry of University of Mumbai.

At present students of the department are getting the facility of Library Book-bank.

Now-a-days the total number of Text books is 453   and reference books is 204.

Department has its own library enrolling more than 50 books of the subjects as well as reference. The books are issued to students as well as teachers of the department. The issuing register is maintained in the department under the supervision of departmental library incharge.
