Introduction:
Great Political thinker Aristotle says, Man is a social as well as a political animal. In recent period, the study of Political Science has gained new importance. After independence with the acceptance of new constitution and introduction of democracy the study of Political Science became important for everyone in our country, realizing the need and importance of the study of Political Science. Our founder member Principle Br. Balasaheb Khardekar – Ex .Member of Parliament and Great Educationist Prin. M. R. Desai - Ex. M.L.A. both decided to introduce this subject for college students from the beginning.
We owe a deep debt of gratitude to our previous faculties like Prof. P. B. Patil noted professor and author of many books on political science. Prof. Salgaonkar, Prof. S. R. Khanolkar others who have contributed much to the development of the Department of Political Science.
The nature of Modern Political Science has changed in many ways. The new concepts, theories and approaches have emerged in political science. With a view to make students more conscious, scientific, active, responsive and responsible; political science department of Br. Balasaheb Khardekar College, Vengurla offers Political Science as optional subject at undergraduate level.
Aims and objectives:
- To encourage the students to understand the basic of political science, which is helpful for them to lead the good life.
- To develop leadership skills among the students.
- To induce lifelong learning skills, attitude for political, social & personal development.
Academic Planning:
The department prepares the teaching plan at the beginning of every academic year. Every year syllabus completion report is submitted to the principal.

Departmental Library:
The departmental library is not available, however, the Central library of the college consists adequate numbers of Marathi and English books. The the literary books, the reference books, the text books, the critical books and are kept in the Central Library of the College. Total books in the Central Library relating to Politics department are nearly 982.
Faculty has their own personal library. The Central Library also has journals and magazines in Marathi & English. The books are issued as per the time-table set for the same
