The department of History established in 1961-62. History belongs to the past and the department has been and is motivating the students to explore the historical events and historical references of the past. History is closely associated to language and social sciences too and it makes people aware of the development and upheavals of all the sectors in a society and cultures. Therefore, historical knowledge is essential not only for teaching –learning process but on every walk of like. The prime aim of the department is to shape a mind-set of the students to excavate the past and the ancient history. History strives to develop human values among students by throwing light on historical persons and their deeds. Thus, the department makes the students to look at history as a source of human values. In short, the department attempts to include physical fitness and moral values through the teaching of history.
The department has an enriched tradition of eminent personalities and faculty members whose contribution to the department can’t be ignored.
- Br. Balasaheb Khardekar :
The founder member of SPM and the first principal of Br. Balasaheb Khardekar College, Hon. Prin. Br. Balasaheb Khardekar himself was the lover of history. His habit of reading especially, historical books made him one of the well-read personalities and the great orator of India.
- Appasaheb Jadhav :
Prof. Appasaheb Jadhav also contributed to the department by handling his responsibilities carefully. He too contributed honestly to maintain the enriched tradition of the department.
- C. P. Kurne:
Dr. C. P. Kurne, Head, Dept. of History of G.K.G. College, Kolhapur transferred to Br. B. K. College, Vengurla who also sincerely served his duties towards the departmental work and activities. He also takes efforts to develop the strength of the department by adapting various innovative practices in the department.
- M. K. Pawar:
Prof. M. K. Pawar who was transferred from G. K. G. College, Kolhapur also tried his best to enrich the tradition of the department.
- V.A.Dewoolkar:
Currently Dr.V.A.Dewoolkar is working as a Head of the department. He also serves his duties sincerely towards the departmental work and activities. He too takes efforts to develop the strength of the department by adapting various innovative practices in the department. This department was established to make the students historically aware about the historical facts in the human society in general and Indian society in particular
This department was established to make the students historically aware about the Historical facts in the human society in general and Indian Society in particular Dr. V. A. Dewoolkar of this department is Ex. Programme Officer of N.S.S. Department in Br. B. K. College, Vengurla.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
- To make awareness among the students about Historical Land Marks.
- To create Interest in students about, International, National as well as Local History.
- To arrange visit to the various places and to know the importance of historical event, information document etc.
- To encourage the students about writing History.
- To inspire the students for Historical research work.
