INTRODUCTION

 With the vision in mind, “Education of the welfare of the Masses” Hon’ ble Prin. M. R. Desai and Hon’ ble  Bar.Khardekar saheb  gave birth  to an  educational institute, “The shikshan prasarak mandal” in 1945. The Institutes milestone in the excellence of higher education was step up a Br.Balasaheb Khardekar College in rural area in 1961. Within a decade college become well known multi faculty institute in Konkan region.

                  During 1961 the growing need and demand of specialization Geography as a principal subject to B.A.-I, II and III year student. Pro.Hajare was Head of the Department at that time. After that Prof.Sanjay Menashi joined as a lecture during 1994 and became in charge of the department in June 1994. The vision, inspiration & facilities offered by Hon’ble Prin. M. R. Desai saheb gave present set up to Geography Department.

                  The tradition of Hon’ble Prin. M. R. Desai saheb is continued through Hon. Secretary late Shri Diliprao desai and Hon’ble secretary Prof. Jaykmarji Desai in the advancement of Geography Department, during nineties Prin. Satham sir’s visualization and Prin.S.D.Sathe support boosted the department. Prin.Phadatare sir and now Prin Dr.V.A.Dewoolkar sir along with office administrative staff of the college are keen format of the Geography Department intact.

                  During 1961 Mr.Hajare joined as a lecturer, in 1994 Prof.Sanjay Menashi joined as a lecturer. In 2005 Prof.S.K.Patil joined as a lecture for senior wing. From June, 2011 Prof. Kamlesh  R. Kamble working as a head of the department for senior wing. All the staff members of Geography Department are working sincerely in keeping academic standard and scholarly base intact, outcome which Geography become first choice among student. In this academic year department has 10 Toposheet, 11 weather maps and 4 weather instrument.  The number of past students of our department has working in Industrial and Government services.

Aims and objectives of the department

         

The board of studies should brief components of the course/ paper. The student should get in to the prime objective & expected level of study with required outcome of basic & advance knowledge at examination level

  1.   To enable the students to face the global corporate world.
  2.   To motivate the students to understand the basics of Geography.
  3.  To prepare the students for variety of challenging careers through    innovation in teaching and learning.
  4.   To encourage the students to use Geographical knowledge in day to day life. Student should know fundamental      branches of geography.
  5.    Student should get acquired with the geomorphologic &climatological concept.
  6. To expose the student to the student to the environment.
  7. To induce lifelong learning skills attitudes for social & personal development. 
  8.  To prepare skilled technologies by imparting theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field of geography.
  9.  To include practical approach among the student.
  10. To develop specific skills (Drawing, use cartographic Techniques, Computer, Literacy, Map reading & interpretation) among the student for accepting

                            ACADEMIC PLANNING

 

                   The department of Geography plans, academic matters at the beginning of the academic years. A meeting with Principal is conducted for the distribution of courses of FY, SY and T.Y.B.A. As University of Mumbai offers CBGS system of Examination. Syllabus completion, Geographical excursion, Topic wise tests, Practical, Seminars and Workshops are planned. In this meeting overall performance is discussed in these meetings.

 

1)       Teacher: Preparing teaching plans, discussion about the syllabus etc.

2)       Tests: Conducting tests for the students, content of tests, semester wise exam etc.

3)       Syllabus Completion: Syllabus completion at the end of the year. Syllabus completion report is submitted to the principal.

4)       Others: To organize GIS Training Course, and Tourism courses,

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY

The library facilities are available in our college central library. In the college central library there are 235 reference and text books of Geography on various branches of Geography available in our Central Library. The several volumes of National Geography magazine is the treasure of our library. Different atlases and reference books also available in library. Text book are issued to the student, Department staff and subscribe journals like Bhugol Sanshodhan Patrika, Department atlases and reference book. The specimen copies of the subjects are made available to the students.

ALUMNI

The number of past students of our department has acquired various positions in private and government services. There are so many students having successfully passed their B.A.III final examination in subject Geography. Due to Practical, Field Work & Excursion – Study Tour almost all student coming contact with teacher. Almost all student have successfully joined either education field or some other field for their P.G.studies & professional studies.
